The Zone Diet, Day 29

July 29th, 2008 · 2 Comments

me-and-jackie-at-the-race.jpg Whew. This is me after the Beaufort Road Race. It was a hot day!

 Weight today: 184.2

Anyway, almost through the Zone Diet. Man, I have cheated more on this diet than I should have. Maybe 4 or 5 big cheats. Of course the weight loss kept right on rolling so as far as results it is a good diet. It was a bit hard for me to stick to (hence the cheats I suppose). In any event, it has been pretty successful and I am just a few days from closing the book on The Zone. Even with the cheats, I have lost 9.6 pounds thus far this month. That’s pretty darn good for any diet.

Today I will eat my standard Zone plan.

  • Zone shake (breakfast)
  • 100 calories of Zone bar (snack)
  • low fat deli meat (turkey and ham) sandwich on whole grain bread (lunch)
  • Apple (lunch)
  • Almonds (lunch)
  • 100 calories of Zone  bar (snack #2)

I am hoping to do another Zone smoothie for dinner, but I need some groceries to do that, so we will see. It all depends on how diligent I am about going to the grocery store. I need to run tonight. Last night was a workout night.

Oh, since confession is good for the soul - after the Arena Bowl on Sunday I pigged out. It was bad. I ate way to much. Last year it probably would have only qualified as a meal rather than “pigging out”. After I have learned about having a more healthy relationship with food though, the pizza and beer fest was indeed pigging out. I felt pretty bad afterwards. Not just from a guilt perspective (I try to banish that) but just from overeating and feeling bloated and lethargic.

As far as guilt - I would say that once you have pigged out, you have to banish the guilt. You can’t “un-eat” the food and you just need to move on. There can be good things about it. It often renews our commitments and it is usually fun during the pig-out-fest. So don’t beat yourself up too badly. Just jump back on the horse and ride on! If it is a limited-frequency event, you can recover as I have learned in my year of Dozen Diets.

Evening update:

Well, I strayed out of The Zone a bit for dinner with a couple of pieces of thin crust cheese pizza and a lite beer. I did my best to keep it in the 600 calorie range. The Zone says if you stray, try and stick to your calorie limits, which only makes sense. I was starving after my run so I wanted something substantial.

I then had the standard Zone bar snack before bed.
