Wow. I just read “The Weight Loss Cure They Don’t Want You to Know About.” (Click the title or the pic for a link to Amazon where you can buy the book)
Here are my thoughts - If you like your conspiracy theories, then read this book. I found the conspiracy theories to be a bit weak myself despite the author’s claim of first hand knowledge of pharmaceutical research and the link to the food companies. I also have a great deal of first hand knowledge of pharmaceutical research (having been in the field for years and working with numerous major pharmaceutical manufacturers) and I haven’t seen any of the conspiracy stuff reported in the book. Of course I am also from Chattanooga, TN, the land of the Little Debbie cake and The Moon Pie (have you ever tried a Moon Pie? A notable taste and a cool story. NOT DIET FRIENDLY THOUGH - check them out here and try one, but in moderation only, please!)
Does that mean that the conspiracy theory stuff and the link between pharmaceutical companies and food industry doesn’t exist? I won’t say that since I haven’t worked for EVERY pharmaceutical company. It just seems unlikely to me (and a little flaky)
Still, the purpose of the book is “The Weight Loss Cure”. Wow. I don’t know if the story behind it is true or not. It is a pretty fantastic story (and by that I mean it reads like fantasy) but it could be true. The cure itself though might work. I don’t know. Even as an “investigative dieter” I can’t try this one. The first 30 days (Phase 1) has 60 strictures (some repeat)  one must follow that seem hard in the extreme (colon cleansing, raw vinegar and raw coconut oil daily, only organic food, no microwaving, take Krill Oil, take enzymes, take probiotics, take no medicine of any kind - prescription or OTC) and it gets harder (and weirder) on Phase 2. Phase 2 is where the daily INJECTIONS of hCG (Human chorionic gonadotrophin) start. The injections (that are illegal to buy in the US unless you are a doctor) along with a very strict diet makes this one a no- go for me. You can get the injections from a Doctor, but most will tell you they are unsafe (as will the FDA). The book tells us that the FDA and the Doctors are in cahoots with big pharma and the food companies to make us fat and sick and so we should ignore them. I will choose to go with my Doc and the FDA on this one. You choose for yourself.
The book goes into a lot of support for simpler times when the stuff we ate was more natural and all that jazz. It also says like outside the US is so much better because of the food there having less chemicals and stuff. I won’t deny that the United States is fatter than everyone else, but life expectancy is going up not down and we, in the US, live a long time. I think we are okay and I think the preachy nature of “the good old days of yesteryear” and the food in other countries is a bit overdone. Then again, I did mention I work for big bad pharma. In all of my years though, my colleagues and I have only ever tried to help people. Not make them fat or sick.
Anyway, bottom line - this book might be right on. I can’t test this one for us. My advice though would be to check it out from the library, give it a read and then if you decide to try the plan, ask your doctor and then buy the book. My review here is not meant to defame the book or the author. Read it and judge for yourself.
I am glad I read it though. I love a good conspiracy theory.

Hey, thanks for the comment and the link. I knew there was something fishy about this guy! Seriously, the whole book sort of scared me and I hate to see dieters taken advantage of because, as anyone who has struggled with weight can attest, we overweight folks can often be desparate enough to listen to just about anything and it is darn near criminal to take advantage of that so thanks for the heads up!
