Low Calorie Diet Month End Summary

February 1st, 2008 · 3 Comments

wolfpack.JPG Well, I made it through my first month and the low calorie diet is behind me. I at 54997 calories over the days of the diet for a an average of  1896 calories per day. I lost 8.5 pounds which is pretty much what the diet promises, 2 pounds per week.

I would not say it was incredibly easy as one good dinner or party can kill your calories for a day so it takes some pretty constant vigilance.

I also found that exercise was key so I had to keep the exercise intensity at a pretty high level. I actually think though, as stated in the Diet Principles, that this is going to be true of most diets and people who diet alone often fail for nothing more than a lack of activity.

  • So for ease of understanding, I would rank this diet as a 8 out of 10. It is measuring calories and that is all. You do hav e to calculate how many calories you take in and sometimes you have to make a guess based on the information you can find thus I dropped it to a 8.
  • For forgiveness of a “cheat” I would say this was a 10 of 10 since I cheated a couple of notable times and still stayed on schedule
  • For ease of execution I would give this one a 6 out of 10. It’s not always easy to find calorie numbers for everything. A daily log is essential or you will lose track and in my experience, if you don’t exercise, then your metablosim will match your intake so you will plateau. Of course this may not happen for everyone. We are all different.
  • For results, I would give this a 6 out of 10. I mean, it worked, but 2 pounds a week is a dismal weight if you have a long way to go. Doctor’s would tell you it is the healthy way to go, but when you are overweight (or obese  - I hate that term) then you don’t give a fig about healthy, you want to be smaller and 2 pounds a week feels like an eternity and it doesn’t take long to put a pound or two back on and thus lose a week of progress.

That gives the Low calorie diet a rating of 30 on the DozenDiets scale. A 40 would represent a perfect rating.

    Mr. Joel-

Congrats on a solid first month! I waited 31 days to say it, but the low-cal diet is one of the most boring-sounding I can think of. There aren’t many books named after it, or cities, either! So I’m quite happy you’re moving on to one that has both.

8.5 pounds in a month sounds perfectly appropriate for a guy of your build. It’s not like you’re starting off at 300 and have 80 easy and obvious pounds to lose! Slow and steady. Keep it up!

What’s going to happen when you’re a few months in and down to a svelte 200 or so? Will you begin carving out organs to drop 2-3 pounds here and there?

Great article in CNN today about a guy who DID have a lot to lose:

Hopefully the schedule is set up to prevent rapid weight loss. Meaning, a month on South Beach and then a switch to something that is not so rapid should keep me in the slow-loss category enough to keep going. I don’t see an issue until the 175-180 range so I have a good 50 pounds I can afford to use during 2008.
If I drop all of that? I guess I reingite my dream of a modeling career (that’s a joke)
